Science is merely the method...
We tend to forget that, don't we? "Follow the science!" and "We trust science" as though science is an actual object that you can caress and put in your pocket like a keychain. Science is the process by which we make progress. If you wish to now go through the rest of STEM... Technology comes from the Greek word tekni, from technique... Technology is the art... the craft from which we make progress. Technology is our toolbox for making progress. Engineering is the term from which we get ingenuity... it is the creative process by which we make progress. Finally, we get to Mathematics. Math gives you a "yes" or a "no". Right or wrong. True or false. It communicates the outcome of the experiment. Math, effectively, is the language by which we get progress. If you are honest with the data, you tell the truth. If you are sneaky with the data, or hide inconvenient data, you are a liar.
One of my favorite quotes is by Carlo Rovelli-- "...before experiments, measurements, mathematics and rigorous deductions, science is above all about visions. Science begins with a vision. Scientific thought is fed by the capacity to "see" things differently than they have previously been seen."
Having vision in real life? Try this:
They say that the hip has very little horizontal force (8% of body weight). But they forgot to factor in some very basic math. When you include the hip in isolation (like an amputee) instead of the hip attached the knee and ankle (like everyone else), it's 57 to 62% body weight. Here's a link to an animation to explain it.
